Ivan Gerginov has over 17 years of experience in energy efficiency financing. For the past 15 years, his work has focused exclusively on the design, implementation, monitoring, and impact assessment of specialized climate finance mechanisms at the international level.
Mr. Gerginov has designed several specific sustainable financing mechanisms tailored to local markets, ranging from credit lines, trust and investment funds, risk mitigation instruments, insurance products, soft loans, grant-backed financing programs, and many others. Several of these mechanisms have already been successfully implemented by various local commercial or development banks, investment funds, or government agencies, demonstrating the high quality of their design.
In addition, Mr. Gerginov has managed or participated directly in the implementation of these mechanisms, which have financed climate projects totaling more than €1.5 billion ($1.6 billion) through financial products. Furthermore, he has conducted evaluations of these programs in different markets and has gained specialized experience in supporting investment banks focused on clean energy and managing funds dedicated to clean energy in Europe, Latin America, Asia, and Africa.
He has gained extensive international experience working in more than 40 countries across Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Europe on assignments led or funded by major multilateral development banks, such as the African Development Bank, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the European Investment Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank, the World Bank, and United Nations agencies. He has also worked with bilateral development organizations, such as KfW and the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), as well as with NGOs specializing in clean energy, such as the International Energy Agency and REEEP.
